NFT and Blockchain: The Relationship.

The blockchain is a mother of basically the cryptosystem but in recent time to come, it would mother more than the digital currency. It would be the backbone of what future technology holds. (Blockchain: The genesis by Festus)

So, there is a need for all crypto, internet and digital gadget user to understand the modus operandi of a blockchain. (Blockchain: The genesis by Festus).

Blockchains are public playgrounds for decentralized applications. Anyone can create anything on blockchain networks, but that also means there are no requirements or standards to conform to. For example, we can build a slide with plastic, but another person may build a slide using a different material such as cement. The point is that due to its decentralized nature, there are no enforceable standards. (How to NFT by Coingecko)

ERC-721 and ERC-1155 are clear examples of different NFT standards on Ethereum. However, we are now part of a multi-blockchain world, each with its technical specifications for NFTs. Below is a (non-exhaustive) list of different NFT standards and NFT projects on other blockchains.

We have just Five Known blockchains for NFTs which are:

Ethereum Blockchain

Solana Blockchain

Binance Smart chain

Wax Blockchain

Tezos Blockchain

we hope to see more discovery and development of new blockchains capable of improving on the limitations of the existing blockchains.

On Ethereum blockchain, we have 3 standards which are ERC-998, ERC-721, and ERC-1155. Examples are the Cryptopunks, Cyptokitties, and so on.

On Solana blockchain, we have one which is Metaplex (SPL). Examples are Degen Ape Academy, Aurory, and so on.

On Binance Smart Chain we have two standards which are BEP-1155 and BEP-721. Examples are Cryptodoggies, Cryptoblades and so on.

On Wax blockchain, we have two standards which are Atomic Assets or Simple Asset. Examples are Topp Series 1, Street Fighter and So on.

On Tezos standards, we have FA-2 (TZIP-12). Examples are Pupila Dilata, Neonz collectibles and so on.

One might be wondering whether it is possible to bridge and move your NFTs between the various blockchains. On Ethereum, for example, bridging is currently possible but is in an experimental phase on Ethereum’s Rinkeby testnet.

In the not-so-distant future, you should be able to bridge NFTs on Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible chains that use a similar ERC-721 token standard such as Binance Smart Chain and Polygon. On the other hand, non-EVM compatible chains like Solana, which uses the SPL NFT standard, will require new infrastructure to be built before you can move your NFTs over. (How to NFT by Coingecko)
